CaFA Film Nights - Queer Caribbean Film Night
August is Black Pride in New York, and to celebrate, CaFA Film Nights will be dedicated to the Queer Caribbean.  As is the case in other parts of the world, the lives, work and art of Caribbean LGBTQI people are rarely given the attention they deserve and we hope in our own little way to change that.  Let's take a look at the films being screened.

Out on the Tracks
Documentary Feature
produced by Ron San Marchi
US/Guyana | 2014

Out on the Tracks centers on gay Guyanese soul singer Nhojj, and documents his groundbreaking Made To Love Him sessions. Affirming the LGBTQ community through same-sex renditions of classic heterosexual love songs from Gershwin's "Someone to Watch Over Me" to Billy Joel's "She's Got a Way" ("He's Got a Way"), this gentle and human documentary touches upon the themes of love, hope and self-acceptance, and explores the recording process and the power of music.

TOLERANCE
by Reginald Campbell, Jr.
Documentary Short
Jamaica | 2014

This 30min documentary looks at the life of several gay Jamaicans. It relays what life is like to be gay and Jamaican in the 21st century by showing some of the obstacles they continue to undergo and covers the work of activist, Javed Jaghai, as he mounts a legal challenge to Jamaica's "buggery" laws.

ANTIMAN
by Gavin Ramoutar
Narrative Short
Guyana | 2014

Set in Guyana, South America, this film explores masculinity in the Caribbean. Anil, an introverted young boy, is pressured by his abusive father, Max, to become a skillful cricket player the way he himself was years before. Although skilled in the game, Anil refuses to play and takes refuge in his love for Dano, an older boy in the village. In order to attend the local masquerade and see the boy he pines for, Anil must win the cricket tournament.
