Nogales a new performance piece created by Richard Montoya, Joan Osato and Sean San José.
part of Campo Santo residency at Magic Theatre showings of new work Campo Santo Open Process new work, research, discussion, visual art installations, films and more
A boy is shot. 15 times. In his back. By the United States Border Patrol. He is murdered across the border wall. Killed in the streets of his hometown of Nogales. In Mejico. The official response is: he was throwing rocks. 15 bullets to the back in front of a close pharmacy. On his way home from work.
Que paso?
What is the climate of our country that creates this heat. How hot is hate? How do we rewind the bullets...
Responding to this real world tragedy. This new performance piece is : Storytellers in Cartel Country. New theatre- original and researched text, with created video and short film, inside of scenic art installations. Performance that is that is documentation, documentation morphed into performance - responding to headlines that are not written, about the shadow nation of our country.
What happens after the news has broken, after the stories have gone to press, after the court holds up sentencing, and Mejico is filled with fear, and on the other side of the border, in the Untied States there are memorials all along the path from Nogales, Mejico to Nogales, Arizona. Trying to tell stories that follow and follow up on the headlines- following a story that traces the bullet from the United States to Mejico.
