Small Business Lunch at Halls
The King Street Marketing Group and Halls Chophouse are pleased to welcome local businessman, entrepreneur and former City of Charleston official, John Tecklenburg. He's running for Mayor this Fall and he's our guest speaker for Small Business Lunch at Halls, Thursday, August 6th.
Tecklenburg's plan for the future of Charleston revolves around his three major quality-of-life priorities:
1. A public safety strategy to make our citizens more secure
2. A livability agenda that puts our residents' quality of life first
3. A blueprint for improving city services without raising taxes
"Yes, we're proud that people love to visit our city," said Tecklenburg. "But now it's time to start putting our citizens' quality of life first."
From traffic to tourism to smart, thoughtful development that respects the character of our neighborhoods, he believes that Charleston's next mayor needs to make livability and quality of life Job One.
John Tecklenburg has spent much of his career as a small business owner and business advocate. In 1978, John founded Southern Oil Company, which he successfully owned and operated for nearly 20 years. Upon selling the business in 1995, he was appointed by Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. and Charleston City Council to the position of Director of the Department of Economic Development, where he spearheaded the revitalization of Upper King Street.
Tecklenburg has shared his time and talents helping and leading many volunteer and community organizations. He has served as president of the historic Rotary Club of Charleston and president of the Crisis Ministries homeless shelter. He is co-founder and President of SC STRONG, a program for the rehabilitation of ex-offenders. He has also been a leader with the Palmetto Project, Charleston County Human Service Commission, SC Coastal Conservation League, and Lowcountry Aid to Africa.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He also attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston where he pursued his lifelong passion for music and jazz, in particular.
Each month, Small Business Lunch at Halls features a distinguished speaker from the business, civic or political arenas upstairs at Halls Chophouse with an imaginative three-course meal prepared by Executive Chef Matthew Niessner.
Tickets are $29 per person plus tax and processing fee for the luncheon and parking. Doors open at 11:30 AM and lunch is served promptly at noon. Limited seating of 90 participants provides an intimate experience with each speaker.
Halls Chophouse is located at 434 King Street in downtown Charleston. Parking, validated at the event, is available at the Visitors Center Garage on Ann Street between King and Meeting Streets.
