Shook Twins, John Cragie, The Bucky Walters and Lonesome Roses

Shook Twins are not your average folk duo. The sisters, Laurie and Katelyn, have some tricks up their sleeves. You wouldn't expect a small town girl from North Idaho to drop a beatbox in the middle of a song. Katelyn plays the guitar, glockenspiel, mandolin, sings opera into a telephone and bocks like a chicken. Laurie plays wah-wah banjo, bass, ocarina, percussion and loops various melodies and beats to make it sound like more than just two identical twin sisters. Together they sing in twin harmony, which is a whole different experience from non-twin harmony.

The Bucky Walters trace the roots of their frenetic, foot stomping music to the wilds of Humboldt County, California where the group has been enthralling and exhausting its audiences since the fifth year of this millennium. Travel-tested and well worn through six groove-thirsty years of grit, sweat and string-lust, this young acoustic ensemble's music has evolved into a bold and eclectic Americana meltdown. Their bluegrass-based escapades hold fast to the traditional instrumentation of guitar, mandolin, banjo, dobro, fiddle, upright bass and harmonica while seeming to effortlessly journey into some not-so-traditional musical territory.

From the shores of California, through the streets of Nashville, Tennessee, to the long, lonely highways of Montana, John Craigie has spent the last seven years "living the life romantic" of a continuously touring folk-singer. With his 7th full length album 'October is the Kindest Month' hot off the press, he brings his hilarious stories and and honest songs to Arcata once again.

The Lonesome Roses are an acoustic trio from Arcata, CA. Formed by Chris Parreira (guitar, vocals) and Claire Hashem-Hanlon (violin, vocals, guitar) a year and a half ago, they have recently added the talented Amber Grimes (upright bass) to the mix. Influenced by artists such as The Weepies and Gillian Welch/Dave Rawlings, they bring a sweet blend of pop, folk and bluegrass.
