A Shot in the Dark: Program B
We are turning off the power for two weeks! In this Festival and environmental initiative, The Tank is celebrating innovative performance that utilizes self-sufficient and alternative energy sources. Artists are using everything from glow tape to flashlights to a bike-powered generator to shed some light on their work. Program B is a variety show featuring a new piece of storytelling by Julie Threlkeld, improvised music, and an excerpt from Nelson Lugo's latest magic and storytelling show.

In LIFE, DEATH, AND OTHER ILLUSIONS, Nelson Lugo tackles the subject of death  both physical and emotional  in this new show that features his signature style of storytelling and magic. This multi-media theatrical experience is rife with love and loss, pain and laughter, and a scary amount of sleight-of-hand magic. LIFE, DEATH, AND OTHER ILLUSIONS reveals that you don't need to be a magician to see the trick in finding joy after sorrow.  This show is a 30 min excerpt of the full piece and will be performed without stage lights using alternative lighting methods.

Heterophony Games is a collaborative piece conceived by Jacques Boudreau and realized by Boudreau on guitar, Gabriel Brown on saxophones, Jesse Greenberg on mallet percussion and Robert Liota on bass. Heterophony is a musical texture where variations of a single melody happen simultaneously. These four performers will improvise the melodies they are varying and altering; creating, editing and evolving as they go. Those melodies will become the environment that new melodies and solos are created out of. Through this process they will explore the boundaries between composition, improvisation and collaboration.

Generator: A Disastrous Love Story
When Hurricane Sandy rips through one couple's life, it caps off an already disastrous year of failure, loss and death. Left in the dark, trapped in their unheated home, forsaken by Con Ed, the two battered lovers seek solace and comfort not from each other, but from a machine: the shrieking, gas-guzzling, and potentially deadly GENERAC GP7500E generator. Generator, a long-form, theatrical storytelling piece, puts you on the ground in post-Sandy Yonkers  where fear, resentment and cold noses run amuck. Featuring a very special appearance by Dr. Abraham Maslow.

Written and performed by Julie Threlkeld
Directed by Michelle Walson
