Nashville Jazz Workshop Presents "Cabaret at the Workshop"
On Thursday, July 23 at 7:00 pm, the Nashville Jazz Workshop will present the first in a new musical series, "Cabaret at the Workshop."

This cabaret night offers a taste of the art form from four masterful singers. Ginger Newman, Carolyn German, Connye Florance, and Robert Whorton celebrate the inspiration and impact of song, each with an intriguing and individual point-of-view. Joined by Lori Mechem, Roger Spencer, and Marcus Finnie, these artists deliver an engaging musical journey to kick-off this new series at the Workshop.

Ginger Newman has performed in Nashville for over thirty years with leading roles at Tennessee Repertory Theatre and as a featured soloist with the Nashville Symphony under the guest batons of Bill Conti and Marvin Hamlisch. Her cabaret performance, One Woman Show, has taken her all over the world as a headliner on the luxury ships QE II, the S/S Rotterdam, and the Seven Seas Mariner.

Carolyn German has been a theater professional for over 35 years, having worked as a singer, actor, director, lyricist, producer, playwright, composer, and acting teacher. Her performance credits span from Off-Broadway to cruise ships, from DC's Studio Theater to over 25 projects locally with Tennessee Repertory Theater. As a solo vocal artist, she has performed at NYC's Milford Plaza, and the "American Composers Series" at the Smithsonian Museum of American History.

Connye Florance has gained international attention for her music with jazz fans and adult contemporary listeners alike - from nightclub and theater performances on and off Broadway -to headline and featured appearances at area jazz festivals. She was Jazz Discovery's "Vocalist of the Year" in 2000, just after her 1999 independent release, Turn My Heart, won a Nashville Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.

Robert Whorton recently moved from Chicago where he was recognized one of the area's premier male vocalists, performing at Davenport's, Maxim's, Chicago Cultural Center, The Storefront Theater, Gentry of Chicago and Drury Lane Water Tower. In addition to cabaret shows in New York and Greece, he has co-starred with renowned songwriter David Friedman in the Midwest premier of the off-Broadway success of Listen to My Heart: the Music of David Friedman.

The performance begins at 8:00 pm in the Jazz Cave at the Workshop. Admission is $20 / $10 high school and college students with ID. Tickets will go on sale Monday, July 6 at 10AM and will be available online, by phone 24/7 at Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006) or during business hours at the NJW office (242-5299). A small convenience charge is added to online or 800-number purchases.
