Verdi: Requiem
Writing a Requiem upon the death of Alessandro Manzoni, an author regarded by Italians as the central figure of Italian culture and literature of the 19th century, Verdi naturally drew upon his experience as an opera composer, but the style and texture of his Requiem are very different from his music for the stage. While the Requiem remains a masterpiece of dramatic art, the reputation of the work rests principally on the sheer beauty and poignancy of its many quieter passages.
One youth ticket (age 7-17) free with each full-price ticket, must be ordered in advance.
