Package of Wine Wednesdays at Nordo's Culinarium
Tickets to all four of our incredible WINE WEDNESDAYS at Nordo's Culinarium: Our favorite wine expert guides us through a set of five often rare, always beautiful wines. We hosted a couple evenings of this series in the Smith Tower last year and they were truly magical. We are thrilled that Tom Hajduk of Vino Verite has created four more evenings in the series. We have listed the six wines we will be sampling July 8, including one that is almost 90 years old. Tickets to the July 8 event will sell for $70, but we are offering a package of all four of these delicious evenings for only $200.

July 8 - The French High-Road, Less Travelled

For this one-time tasting event you will be lead through superior-quality wine regions in France, many of which you may never have heard of.  These are world famous regions in Europe, and certainly well-known and beloved by the French, but which don't seem to get much mainstream attention here in the United States.  To this end, we will be conspicuously avoiding Burgundy and Bordeaux, for example.

Your host for this grand evening is Tom Hajduk, Café Nordo's Wine Curator and co-owner of Vino Verite wine shop. In Nordo style, Tom blends storytelling, science, and history as you taste these beautiful, unusual, and rare wines. Nordo will provide music, food, and surprises. This is a rare, intimate experience and tickets are extremely limited. There are only forty spots available, so we encourage you to act quickly.

An overview of the regions we will "visit" through wine and story:

Sparkling Wine: Cremant d'Alsace
The beautiful and still very rural region of Alsace is in Northeastern France, right on the border of Germany.  It is a true melding of cultures, and the wine matches this factas the saying goes, Alsatian wines feature "German precision and French finesse."  There is nothing quite like the crisp, elegant delivery of sparkling Alsatian wine, and we will taste one of the finest.

Condrieu: Northern Rhone
The Rhone tends to be well-known for its red wines, but one of the most expensive regions in the world for white wine is here, and for good reason: the small riverside town of Condrieu produces only white wine made from Viognier, a fantastically aromatic grape.  Most people never get to taste the spicy, balanced tropical and floral flavors of a high-class Condrieu.  Many say that it is a life-changing experience.

Corsican Rosé
Forget what you know or think you know about roséthis is as exotic as it sounds:  a beautiful, full-bodied rosé sourced from grapes grown in the gently sloping valleys on the island of Corsica, right near the strikingly blue waters of the Mediterranean.  One can almost taste the bold independence of this wine made in the city of Ajaccio, which seems to echo the strong-willed origins of Napoleon Bonaparte's birthplace.  Corsican wine is another wonderful offering that most people never get to taste.

Côte-Rôtie
Côte-Rôtie is the source of some of the world's most expensive Syrah, and this well-known grape takes on fantastical and unruly qualities in this steep-sloped region along the upper Rhone River Valley.  This is a very small wine-growing region with old vines, and the result is a dark, brooding Syrah that simply does not taste like anything else in the world.

Cahors Malbec
Malbec from Chile and Argentina has become so ubiquitous that many people think the origin of the grape is South America.  But the birthplace of the art and power of Malbec is France: and one of the only regions in the world to produce only Malbec is Cahors, France.  This is unlike any other Malbec you may have triedit holds the characteristic power, but achieves a level of elegance that approaches royalty.

Rivesaltes Rare, Aged Dessert Wine
Have you ever had a wine that is 50 years old? How about 80?  We will be tasting a 1927 Rivesaltes Dessert Wine that is nearly 90 years old.  Made in the same style as port, Rivesaltes is a region in southern France that again specializes in making only this kind of fortified dessert wine.  And lest you think wine that is 80 plus years old is shy and mellow, this wine will amaze and mystify with its engaging and bold expression.
