SILVIA GIRARDI ACTING - ALL I WANTED TO SAY

A collaborative creation by international artists: poet Allison DeLauer, film production house Cinematique - Milan, choreographer Folawole, video artist Seng Chen, digital artist Tim Roseborough, musician Matt Venuti. All I Wanted to Say is a multidisciplinary journey through theatre, dance, poetry, film, digital art, and music that explores both how we âchooseâ to communicate in the Digital Era and how these modes have transformed through time. A close look at the poetry, letters, text messages, and emails we all send can reveal how much remains untold.

THEATRE OF YUGEN - GETTING TO NOH YU-GEN

A revealing âtheatrical portraitâ of Theatre of Yugen, the only company in the US committed to training and working in the traditional Japanese theatre forms of Noh (lyric Drama) and Kyogen (satirical comedy). It started with an invitation. An invitation to create a 20-minute autobiographical âactress portraitâ to be performed once, on a shared bill with two other âmid-careerâ, female Artistic Directors of small American based ensemble theatre companies dedicated to the creation of new work and physical and vocal training. They were Tannis Kowalchuk of the North American Cultural Laboratory located in the rural Catskill Mountains of upstate New York and Kathy Randels of the New Orleanâs based ArtSpot Productions.
While preparing for that performance, I was reminded of a lecture demonstration / performance I had seen performed by the formidable and always compelling Maja Mitic and directed by Artistic Director Dijana Milosevic, both of Belgradeâs Dah Theatre. I became curious about the format and was impressed with many of the aspects of the presentation.
Following the performance of my 20-minute piece, I wanted to see if I could expand it into a true calling card for myself and for Theatre of Yugen. Getting to Noh Yu-gen is a small step in that direction.
