ETHICS IN HEALTHCARE - SHOULD YOUR DOCTOR BE YOUR FRIEND? Physician & Patient Boundaries
What's with this topic? Why shouldn't you be friends with your doctor? After all few relationships are as personal and important as the one between doctors and patients. Called upon in times of crisis and anxiety, doctors take an oath to advance the best interests of their patients. In turn, patients hopefully develop trust and collaboration with their doctor. So, why shouldn't they be friends? Come and explore some of the historical boundaries in the doctor-patient relationship which are meant to protect patient confidentiality, trust in the profession and avoid compromised clinical judgment. You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to learn more about this important and incredibly personal relationship.
