Small Business Lunch at Halls
The King Street Marketing Group and Halls Chophouse are pleased to welcome Danny Kassis, Vice President of Customer Relations and Renewables for South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G) as the guest speaker for Small Business Lunch at Halls, Thursday, May 7th. We all use electricity and we are using more and more every day. Just last February, SCE&G's customers used 4,970 megawatts, breaking the previous peak demand record of 4,926 megawatts, set August 10, 2007 when it was 106 degrees on King Street.

Every business, every home uses electricity generated by SCE&G by a diverse mix including hydro, biomass, natural gas, coal and nuclear. By 2019 when the two new nuclear plants go online, SCE&G is aggressively forecasting that 60% of the energy produced in South Carolina will have no carbon emissions.

***Will nuclear energy increase your utility costs?
***Are there alternative energy options in your business' future?

When the new nuclear units are operational, SCE&G will retire up to six coal-fired generating units, reducing its coal-fired generation capacity by more than 700 megawatts. This will result in a reduction of carbon emissions by almost 50 percent from 2005 levels.

Kassis' areas of responsibility include the large customer group, customer service engineering, lighting, right of way, pole attachments, and the renewables business unit. Kassis has worked for South Carolina Electric and Gas for over 28 years and he has held the top operating position in both gas and electric operations in the Charleston area. Kassis was promoted to Vice President three years ago.

Kassis presently serves on the board of directors of the Charleston Area Communities In Schools, the National Kidney Foundation of South Carolina, and the MUSC Hollings Center Advisory Council. Kassis is also a past president of the Executive Association of Greater Charleston and the Rotary Club of North Charleston. He also previously served on the board of the Trident United Way, the Charleston Metro Sports Council, ThinkTEC, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Coastal Carolina Chapter of the Boy Scouts, and the Charles Towne Landing Foundation.

Kassis graduated from Clemson University in 1986 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and is a registered professional engineer in the state of South Carolina. He currently serves as a member of Clemson's Board of Visitors as Chairman of the Legislative Committee.

In his spare time Kassis serves as the recruiter for the nationally recognized high school basketball tournament, the Rotary Roundball Classic, which is played annually in the Charleston area.

Each month, Small Business Lunch at Halls features a distinguished speaker from the business, civic or political arenas upstairs at Halls Chophouse with an imaginative three-course meal prepared by Executive Chef Matthew Niessner.

Tickets are $29 per person plus tax and processing fee for the luncheon and parking. Doors open at 11:30 AM and lunch is served promptly at noon. Limited seating of 90 participants provides an intimate experience with each speaker.

Halls Chophouse is located at 434 King Street in downtown Charleston. Parking, validated at the event, is available at the Visitors Center Garage on Ann Street between King and Meeting Streets.
