April showers bring May flowers, especially here in Portland. Do yourself a favor and take your mom to a special Mother's Day Farm Brunch at The Side Yard Farm. We are doing it up this year for mom's day by giving your mom flowers one course at a time. Join our communal table out on the farm for a seed-to-plate brunch experience with three family-style courses highlighting the abundance of edible flowers grown by our friends at Vibrant Valley Farm. Small batch wine maker Corey Schuster of Jackalope Wine Cellars will be pouring his limited edition Rosé to pair with your farm made brunch. Our menu is grown on urban acres from the veggies, to the eggs, milk for cheese and honey from our bees. You cant get closer to knowing where your food comes from than this folks!
Vibrant Valley Farm is currently in its third season as a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), restaurant and wholesale ecologically grown flower and vegetable operation. They offer a CSB (Community Supported Bouquets) program that allows you to receive a bouquet each week through the growing season, directly support your local grower and ensure seasonal and ecologically sound flowers. Founded in 2013 by two women, Kara and Elaine, who are passionate educators and dedicated farmers, Vibrant Valley Farm has committed to exploring innovative solutions to enliven the current food system, both locally and globally. We are currently partnering with local schools and youth projects to create mentorship programs. The farm is 4 acres and located on Sauvie Island just 15 miles from downtown Portland.

Jackalope Wine Cellars is a craft winery in Portland, OR, producing handcrafted wines that express the unique character of the Pacific Northwest. Leaving an engineering past behind, owner/winemaker Corey Schuster built off of his experiences in the Willamette Valley and launched Jackalope Wine Cellars in 2012. With production levels nearing 500 cases in 2014, JWC produces: Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Viognier, Cabernet Franc rosé, a white Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2013 Jackalope Wine Cellars Cabernet Franc rosé was made with 100% Cabernet Franc grapes from Mae's Vineyard in the Applegate Valley. Harvested on September 13, the juice got about 1.5 hours of skin contact before getting pressed into a neutral French oak barrel. Left unfiltered, the wine was hand-bottled in May of 2013. Grapefruit, tangy, a little flinty, with great acid. And thanks to wildfires that year, hints of smoke. Only 23 cases produced!
