Snap on 2&4 w/ Don Aliquo & Jamey Simmons
The next Snap on 2&4 performance in the NJW Jazz Cave in on Friday, April 10 and features a group led by saxophonist Don Aliquo and trumpeter Jamey Simmons!

Don Aliquo hails from Pittsburgh, where he grew up listening to and learning from the city's jazz legends. Following in the footsteps of his father, a well-respected jazz artist himself, Don spent his formative years performing with many of the regions greats. Fortunately for us, he eventually landed in Tennessee where he is a professor in MTSU's Jazz Studies program, and has a busy schedule teaching, performing, and recording. His latest CD, entitled Sun and Shield, features veteran jazz masters Rufus Reid (bass), Jim McNeely (piano), and the dynamic drummer Obed Calvaire. At home in virtually all jazz styles, Don's technical brilliance is matched only by his taste and melodic sense. More at www.donaliquo.com.

Arranger, composer, trumpeter, and educator Jamey Simmons grew up in Wisconsin and knew early on that music was his unique gift. He earned his Bachelors of Music at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and his Master of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Media at the Eastman School of Music where he studied under jazz composer and arranger Fred Sturm. Simmons is currently Director of Jazz Studies at Middle Tennessee State University where he teaches courses in jazz, and directs Jazz Ensemble I.

As a trumpet player, Simmons toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra across the United States, South America, and Japan. Active on the Nashville professional music scene, he has made appearances with artists as diversified as the Hornheads, the Temptations, Dave Weckl, Buddy DeFranco, Macy Gray, Lee Konitz, Duffy Jackson, and the Nashville Jazz Orchestra. He has written arrangements and compositions that have been performed by the the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Buffalo Symphony Pops, and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. His first original jazz sextet CD, Gold Refined in the Fire, features New York saxophonist Scott Robinson.

Joining Aliquo and Simmons are several of their world-class colleagues from the MTSU jazz department: Pat Coil on piano, Jonathan Wires on bass, and Derico Watson on drums.
