Head to the Lizard Lounge every Tuesday in April and you will be grandly rewarded. Each week features the amazing singer songwriter Abbie Barrett and her band The Last Date along with two guests artists. With no formal musical education, Barrett has been able to craft unique, unconventional arrangements that highlight her smoky voice. Her band, The Last Date, does a wonderful job bringing her vision to the live stage, offering everything from honky-tonk country rock to ambient, brooding anthems. Exciting, yes!?
ABBIE BARRETT AND THE LAST DATE:
In 2008, Barrett released her debut album, Dying Day, which "Performing Songwriter" magazine declared "a stellar first release." The Noise calls Barrett "a bright light among others of her genre...evident through compelling vocals, ever-changing chord progressions, and spontaneous melodies." With no formal musical education, Barrett has been able to craft unique, unconventional arrangements that highlight her smoky voice. Her band, The Last Date, does a wonderful job bringing her vision to the live stage, offering everything from honky-tonk country rock to ambient, brooding anthems. She credits Neil Young, Radiohead, and Fiona Apple as her main influences.

BAKER THOMAS TRIO
Three members perform a stripped down version of the band that's been rocking Toad every Thursday night since 2009! Vocal hooks and rock and roll lyrics are backed by one of the sickest bands you'll hear. Horns, violin, and mandolin soar over the top, dueling guitars fill up the middle and the bottom is held down by rock solid bass and a thunderous kick drum. The clever and catchy hit songs cover the spectrum of classic rock, funk and groove, with hints of bluegrass and jam band.... so many influences... one big sound.
ERIC SALT AND THE ELECTRIC CITY
Boston rock band with an eclectic sound. Formed from The Abbey Lounge scene in 2005, Eric enlisted brother Denis, bassist Eric Anderson, and guitarist Mike Oram. They recorded the LP "The Hail Mary" with producer Ed Valauskas at famed Q Division Studios. Eric continues to perform solo shows and spends time scoring and producing at Mosquito Studios just outside Boston. In Late 2006 Eric scored the indie movie The Busker (www.thebuskerthemovie.com ) written and directed by Steve Croke. In early 2006 he contributed scoring to critically acclaimed documentary filmmaker David Sutherland's "Country Boys" which debuted on Frontline to rave revues. Eric's music has also been featured in television shows such as "Dawson's Creek" and "Summerland". 2009 recording and touring to come!
