Head to the Lizard Lounge every Tuesday in April and you will be grandly rewarded. Each week features the amazing singer songwriter Abbie Barrett and her band The Last Date along with two guests artists. With no formal musical education, Barrett has been able to craft unique, unconventional arrangements that highlight her smoky voice. Her band, The Last Date, does a wonderful job bringing her vision to the live stage, offering everything from honky-tonk country rock to ambient, brooding anthems. Exciting, yes!?
ABBIE BARRETT AND THE LAST DATE:
In 2008, Barrett released her debut album, Dying Day, which "Performing Songwriter" magazine declared "a stellar first release." The Noise calls Barrett "a bright light among others of her genre...evident through compelling vocals, ever-changing chord progressions, and spontaneous melodies." With no formal musical education, Barrett has been able to craft unique, unconventional arrangements that highlight her smoky voice. Her band, The Last Date, does a wonderful job bringing her vision to the live stage, offering everything from honky-tonk country rock to ambient, brooding anthems. She credits Neil Young, Radiohead, and Fiona Apple as her main influences.

EDDIE JAPAN
Boston's Eddie Japan combines '60s baroque pop and mod influences with the less restrained tendencies of '80s alternative guitar bands to create a soaring, dramatic sound that stands apart from the beats and banjos of today's indie scene. The band has been described by the Boston Herald as "...a circus of jazzy horn lines and girl group cooing, of swinging '60s cool and odd '80s new wave."
Winners of the 2013 Rock 'n' Roll Rumble Boston's celebrated 'battle of the bands' that artists such as Dresden Dolls, 'Til Tuesday, and The Lemonheads have competed in over the years Eddie Japan is a live band that delivers. A sprawling male/female nine piece, the band's sound is expansive and the performance energetic, with frontman David Santos summoning the swagger of a young Tom Jones and the dramatic ache of Morrissey.
