WSU Extension Low-Stress Cattle Handling & Stockmanship Seminars
Grant County Fair Grounds
Moses Lake, WA
Partager cet événement :

Two nationally recognized cattle handling experts, Dr. Tom Noffsinger and Mr. Curt Pate, will in Moses Lake, WA on April 16 and 17 to offer ways to work cattle in an efficient, effective, low-stress manner to enhance cattle movement, performance, and handler safety.   Human safety, cattle performance, family dynamics, consumer perspectives are all impacted by the way we work cattle on our ranches.  Low-stress cattle handling not only improves producer and family safety, morale, and retention, but has also has been proven to improve animal performance, safety, health, meat quality and the perception of the cattle industry.  Cattle care and handling is a top concern of consumers.  Cattle ranchers and handlers are demonstrating their commitment to animal care and consumer concerns by implementing cattle handling procedures to ensure both animal care and human safety.

Washington State University Extension and Grant County Cattlemen's Association would like to invite Washington beef cattle producers and producers from neighboring states to attend two one-day Low-Stress Cattle Handling and Stockmanship Seminars on April 16 and 17, 2015 at the Grant County Fairgrounds from 9:30 AM-3:30 PM.  Day one's lead speaker will be Dr. Tom Noffsinger, D.V.M and low-stress cattle handling consultant, from Benkelman, Nebraska.  Dr. Noffsinger will present on cattle handling fundamentals, facility design, and low-stress cattle handle techniques for working cattle in confined settings.  The second day's lead speaker will be Mr. Curt Pate, rancher and handling expert from Helen, MT.  Mr. Pate will present on cattle handling for effective stockmanship, which will include a session on horsemanship to work cattle effectively from horseback.  Each day will be comprised of presentations in the morning and hands-on animal demonstrations in the afternoon.

Registration for both days is $60 per person and includes seminars, hand-outs, and lunches.   Registration for a single day is $30 per person and there is a $20 per day late charge for registrations postmarked after April 1, 2015.  Please pre-register so we can ensure adequate accommodations and meals.  Registration brochures are available at www.animalag.wsu.edu under "Upcoming Events" or by contacting Sarah M. Smith, WSU Extension Regional Specialist at smithsm@wsu.edu or (509)754-2011, Ext 4313.

These seminars are funded through a grant from the Washington State University Western Center for Risk Management Education, the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) under award number 2012-49200-20030, received by Washington State University Extension in collaboration with Grant County Cattlemen's Association, Washington Cattle Feeders' Association, and Washington Cattlemen's Association.
