Timeless - Sunday November 21 @ 3PM, Melodia Women's Choir
A program of timeless and beautiful works for women's voices, performed by the 30 singers of Melodia, with Conductor Cynthia Powell, pianist Taisiya Pushkar and organist Nancianne Parella.
Performances of "Timeless" are on Saturday evening November 20 at 8PM in Chelsea and Sunday afternoon November 21 at 3PM on the Upper West Side. Our venue on Saturday night is Holy Apostles Church, on the corner of Ninth Avenue and West 28th Street, a spacious and elegant interior with huge high ceilings and a spectacular organ. On Sunday, we continue our collaborative partnership with West End Collegiate Church, on West End Avenue at 77th Street - our first concert in this historic and beloved neighborhood Church.
The program features Britten's "Missa Brevis in D," Poulenc's "Litanies a la vierge noire," and works by Joan Szymko, Pablo Casals, and Gabriel Faure. We're also excited to be presenting the world premiere of a new commissioned work by performer/songwriter Becca Stevens, a newcomer on the choral scene. Titled "Soli Deo Gloria" - this highly original piece combines jazz flavors and rhythms with Bach references inspired by his Goldberg Variations.
