About Live Oak Brewing:
Live Oak Brewing Company is truly a home-grown Austin enterprise. We are the city's oldest craft brewery, making extraordinary lagers and ales since 1997. Two of Austin's own homebrewers, Chip McElroy and Brian Peters, literally hand-built the brewery and were the two main brewers, keg washers, delivery persons, and proselytizers. Live Oak has grown since then, but we are still just as passionate about providing delicious old-world style beers that are rarely commercially available. Our special beers are brewed in limited quantities in a small east Austin brewery.
About the Brews:
Styled after the Bohemian classic, Pilz is our flagship beer, a golden lager with a moderate hop bitterness and soft clean malt flavor. We employ an intensive decoction mash that contributes to the beer's full body and rich color. Cold fermentation and lengthy secondary conditioning produce a brilliant beer that highlights only the flavors of the malt and hops. Made with a single variety of Moravian Pilsner malt and peppery Saaz hops, Pilz is a simple beer done well. OG: 11.9P ABV: 4.7% IBU: 29 (Year-round)
Grodziskie is a resurrection of the last indigenous Polish beer style to go extinct in the twentieth century. Production ceased in Poland in the 1990's. It is brewed using only wheat malt smoked with oak, the aroma of which is both intense and distinct from the beechwood smoked malt we use in our other rauchbiers. The low gravity of this beer allows the hop bitterness to clearly shine through. The proper Polish yeast strain contributes an important quality we think of as authenticity. Please enjoy this truly rare beer. OG: 8P ABV: 3.2% IBU: 20 (Limited release)
Inspired by the strong dark lagers of Germany, Live Oak Liberator Doppelbock is brewed for the last days of winter. Liberator pours deep brown, almost black with layer upon layer of rich malt flavor. The hops are present to gently support and balance the expressive malt character. While the beer sleeps the winter away in a conditioning tank, our lager yeast continues to work to assure a very clean and dry finish. OG: 18P ABV: 7.2% IBU: 26 (Limited release)
Our American IPA, Liberation IPA, is unique among our beers in that its inspiration is drawn from the Pacific Northwest rather than Central Europe. This classically-hopped IPA is bittered with Columbus and late-hopped with Cascade. The firm bitterness of this hop-forward ale is balanced with a solid, but dry malt body. Another addition of Cascade hops at the end of fermentation imparts citrus aroma reminiscent of Texas Ruby Red grapefruit. Liberation IPA is a beautiful representation of this American style. OG: 15.7P ABV: 6.3% IBU: 56 (Year-round)
