BOOKMARKS Presents A Conversation with Penelope Niven and Jennifer Niven
In this engaging evening benefiting BOOKMARKS, mother/daughter authors, Penelope Niven and Jennifer Niven, will discuss their adventures with some of the books they have written – and some of the books they almost wrote.

Winston-Salem resident Penelope Niven is the author of critically acclaimed biographies of poet Carl Sandburg and photographer Edward Steichen. Her books also include Voices and Silences, co-authored with the actor James Earl Jones; Swimming Lessons, a memoir; and Carl Sandburg: Adventures of a Poet, a biography for children which was awarded an International Reading Association Prize. Penelope is the recipient of the North Carolina Award in Literature, the highest honor the state bestows on an author and is currently completing a biography of Thornton Wilder, to be published in 2011 by HarperCollins.

Jennifer Niven received her MFA in screenwriting from the American Film Institute. Jennifer's books include The Ice Master, Ada Blackjack, Velva Jean Learns to Drive, and The Aqua-Net Diaries: Big Hair, Big Dreams, Small Town, which has been optioned by Warner Brothers as a television series (which Jennifer is writing). The Ice Master, her first book, has received global recognition, including nominations for awards by the American Library Association and Book Sense, and received Italy's esteemed Gambrinus Giuseppe Mazzotti Prize. Now living in Los Angeles, Jennifer is currently at work on her fifth book, Velva Jean Learns to Fly, a sequel to her first novel.
