Singer-songwriter and trumpeter Dietrich Strause could be written off as another sensitive folky with a guitar - but that is not the case due to one major factor. The thing. Whatever the thing is Dietrich has it in spades. Whenever he starts singing audiences stop talking and are drawn in by the literate poetry that is at the core of his writing. This is a young performer who will be going places and very very soon.

Pirate ships, rail yards, skee ball machines, blackberry brandy, and the Coney Island boardwalk—these are just some of the sights, sounds, and smells found in the dimly lit thoroughfares of A Plea for Dreamland, Jason's third full-length album and first since relocating to Brooklyn. From the opening track it's clear that this change of scenery (along with four years between records) has brought about changes in Jason's singing and songwriting, with many new influences at hand. Here Jason is heard singing in a lower, more resonant voice, with lyrics that are acutely poetic, darkly playful, and, at times, just plain quirky.

We all know it's rare to find mature, original, poetic lyrics. It's even rarer to find a guitarist who can play and perform their songs effectively. Beth Colegrove is the miracle which embodies all this combined. The guitar is an extension of her body. Her voice is an extension of her being. Her lyrics speak from beyond what her age should allow. With the benefit of time on her side she is poised to enjoy a long colorful career.
