Le Jeu Theater Workshop

WHAT:

'Le Jeu' is French for 'The Game.' It is through the pleasure of games that we find our unique beauty. And in theater, pleasure is the basis for everything.

'Le Jeu' is also the name of Philippe Gaulier's class in which the principles of all theater pleasure, complicité, major/minor, fixed point, lightness, rhythm, and voice are taught; and these are the things we will play with in this two-day workshop.

WHO:

About the instructor: Michael Burgos is a writer, performer, and director. He is currently writing and producing his first one-person show, The Eulogy, which is set to debut in 2015. In 2014, Michael wrote, and performed in, Waiting for Batteries to critical acclaim*. He has taught theater with Acting For Young People since 2010 and has written and directed over twenty short plays for children.

Michael holds a Diplôme from École Philippe Gaulier and a B.A. (Theater) from George Mason University, where he received the Chris Parsons Acting Award, the Greenspring Players Scholarship, and the Outstanding Achievement in the Major Award. In addition to studying with theater guru Philippe Gaulier, Michael trained with master teacher Dody DiSanto, a teaching protégé of the late Jacques Lecoq.

While at George Mason University, he was one of the founding members of the university's improv troupe, the Mason Improv Association. Michael is also a graduate of Washington Improv Theater's Training Program and has studied at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York and Studio Theatre and Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC.

Michael also holds a B.M. from Berklee College of Music and has toured internationally with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.
