Sea of Darkness

Director:  Michael Oblowitz
USA, 87 min.
Winner:  Best Feature Film, NY Surf Film Festival
Time: 1970's. Place: the Indonesian coast. For a small group of thrill-seekers, surfing was an addiction, an attitude, and way of life  one that sometimes was seen through the lens of psychedelics. In Sea of Darkness, a group of ragtag surfers coast from high tide to high risk led by man shrouded in mystery of near-mythical proportions. As they balance their thirst for the perfect pipeline with the dangerous risk/reward of smuggling illegal drugs and other illicit items across the South Pacific.

All Points South

Director:  Sachi Cunningham
USA, 6 min.
Winner: Best Short Film, NY Surf Film Festival
Surfers are often the litmus test of our oceans.  If the water is dirty, surfers get sick.  All Points South relates how surfers and fishermen are joining together to find solutions to increasing levels of water pollution worldwide.  With world-class surfing at some of the planet's best point breaks, this journey takes us to Southern Chile, where pulp mill pollution threatens an entire ecosystem as well as an ancient way of life.

Out of Place

Directors:  Scott Ditzenberger and Darrin McDonald
USA, 71 min.
Winner:  Viewers Choice Award, NY Surf Film Festival
Out of Place is an insider's perspective of the small, underground community of surfers in Cleveland, Ohio who share a dedication for waves that rarely come. In the backdrop is a Great Lakes city trying to recover from a legacy of lost industry, lost jobs and a river polluted enough to catch on fire.  For them, the golden era of surfing is right now. And it's happening on Lake Erie, five hundred miles from the nearest ocean.

A Pleasant Surprise

Director:  Kyle Pahlow
USA, 58 min.
Official Selection, NY Surf Film Festival
A Pleasant Surprise is a timeless, action-packed surf film, delivering a genuine look into New Jersey's surf culture.  Shot in 16mm and starring New Jersey's top professional & amateur surfers, A Pleasant Surprise allows for the full beauty of this region and its surfers to be realized.

Lives of the Artists

Director:  Ross Cairns
United Kingdom, 81 min.
USA Premiere
A gorgeous film with stunning visuals connects the lives of disparate men - musicians, surfers, a snowboarder - and shows how they all deserve the title of artist.

Delusion

Delusion - An artist's creation blurs the lines between fantasy and reality and call into question the nature of his art. Stylishly crafted and skillfully executed storytelling.

Asbury Park

Director:  Robert Andersen, USA, 20 min.
A man returns to his childhood home in Asbury Park, only to find that his past has been waiting for him. The film's theme of difficult redemption mirrors that of the story of the town from which it takes its name.

Poetry Man

Director:  James McSherry, USA, 25 min.
A Columbia University film student struggles with his thesis idea and his renegade uncle, who may have been involved in a murder. A look at family, trust and the nature of the truth form the basis of this gritty story set in the Bronx. Based on a true story.

Lighthouse

Director:  Ling Li, USA, 18 min.
A lighthouse keeper prepares to turn off the light forever when he meets a woman who might be his soulmate. The only problem? She might also be a mermaid. A lighthearted, heartfelt look at a star-crossed romance.

Aware

Director:   Don Coppola, USA, 28 min., World Premiere
John lives a mundane life of all work and no play.  A mysterious chronic flash in his vision initiates a series of events that cause him to re-evaluate his life and break routine. What he eventually discovers about himself is too much for any man to absorb.

The Surfer

Director:  Dominic Coleman, United Kingdom, 15 min., USA Premiere
A documentary style comedy depicting a weekend in the life of Michael, a forty-one year old accountant who has recently got into surfing.  What began as a hobby is now a full blown obsession.  There's only one problem  he can't surf, though that's the least of his problems.

Water, Light & Chaos

Director:  Edward Folger, Canada, 20 min.
A look at the creative process, and resulting artistic creations, of Canadian artist Juan Geuer during his WIS (Water in Suspense) installation. Particularly interesting is how the art constantly changes as the ever-moving water and light particles play on one another.

Two Hours in the Dark

Director: Chip Hackler, USA, 35 min.
When his film "It Happened One Night" swept the 1935 Oscars, director Frank Capra became crippled with fear. Convinced his next film would fail, he deteriorated to the brink of death--until the day a mysterious stranger showed up, changing Capra's life, and films, forever.

Bowling Blind

Director: Marc Cantone, USA, 35 min., Northeast Premiere
Bowling Blind chronicles the struggles, triumphs and misadventures of a team of visually impaired New Yorkers on their journey to the National Blind Bowling Tournament.
