Dale Russ and Friends
Dale Russ started playing the fiddle in 1973 when first moving to Washington State from his native Connecticut. Although self-taught - and 100% Slovak - In 1990 he was invited to perform at the first Boston College Irish Music Festival "My Love is in America" featuring 16 of the finest Irish fiddle players living in the States. The concert was recorded and released by Green Linnet Records and won an award from the Smithsonian Institute as "Traditional Recording of the Year". His playing is known for its balance of power and elegance.
Since then he has performed and taught throughout the U.S. with brief forays into Canada and Ireland, and has performed yearly in Japan since 1996.  Early years included musical affiliations with Mark Graham (No Comhaile), Sandy Silva, Kevin Burke, and more recently Paddy O'Brien, along with our local heroes and stalwarts Tom Creegan and Mike Saunders, with whom he performs in the trio Crumac.  He recently released his first solo recording in 18 years.
The concert will feature Dale's solo fiddle as well as sets with these musical guests: Tom Creegan, Mike Saunders, Alicia Guinn, Leo Shannon

Tom Creegan teethed on the pipes in Dublin at Na Píobairí Uilleann, the piping headquarters of the world, before drifting over to North America in the mid '80s. He and Dale are survivors of the quartet the Suffering Gaels, which lasted almost as long as the Rolling Stones.

Mike Saunders has a long and storied career, beginning with classical guitar and expanding into folk, Irish, Cape Breton and French music on any number of instruments.

Alicia Guinn is one of a handful of sean-nós (old style) stepdancers in the United States. She studied set and sean-nós dancing while living in Ireland, and will be teaching at the upcoming Sean-nós Northwest Festival in February.

Leo Shannon is an exceptionally talented multi-instrumentalist making his mark on the musical world with the trio The Onlies.
