2022 LULA WASHINGTON DANCE THEATRE -UMOJA CIRCLE & KWANZAA CELEBRATION
We invite you to join the Lula Washington Dance Theatre 2022 Umoja (Unity) Circle, and help us advance our youth dance training programs; our world-renowned touring company and our facility as a home for the art of dance in the city of Los Angeles. Help us, as we move into our 43rd year of service to our community, (January 2023). Help us, as we continue to grow in spite of the impacts of COVID-19.

This is an invitation only, very special, one night only sneak peek of a new collaboration between Lula Washington Dance Theatre, Marcus L. Miller,  and renowned saxophonist, Kamasi Washington in a tribute to the late, great Jazz legend, Pharaoh Sanders,
(premier and location is TBA in 2023).

Join us in the power and the beauty of Modern dance, Classical Ballet, and Street Dance. Blended with Traditional African dance! Feel the power of the African drums! Let your soul be filled with new hope and aspiration for the new year, through the art of dance.

The live music features Los Angeles Musical Treasures: Vocalists Dwight Trible and Maiya Sykes, Percussionists Leon and Jah Amen Mobley to name a few! The night will end with Lula Washingtons acclaimed and beloved ode to Kwanzaa, Harambe Suite including Malik Sows Futo Toro African Drum Ensemble, the LWDT professional dance company, students and community members.

We hope that you would honor us with your presence in the spirit of Ujima, Collective Work & Responsibility; To build and maintain our community together and make our brother's and sister's problems our problems and to solve them together, (the 3rd Principle/Day of Kwanzaa), and also celebrate the vital role that culture and the performing arts play in our human existence; why it is vital to support spaces like LWDT that encourage and facilitate opportunities for the community to come together, to witness, celebrate and experience Black Joy, Black Excellence and Black Artistic expression.

6:00pm - Doors open, Hors d'oeuvre, Beverages
6:30pm - LWDT Acknowledgments, honors, Candle Lighting Ceremony, Toast
7:30pm - Performance Begins
