How the Arts Can Help Us Heal and Overcome Difficult Times
We have art so we shall not die of reality, said the famous German philosopher Frederich Nietzche.  Many of us have turned to the arts during these ongoing difficult times for comfort, distraction, centering, to reinforce and reaffirm our values, and to build connections with other people. Perhaps even unconsciously, we find ourselves seeking solace and connection through the arts.
Throughout human history and all over the world, people have come together through art, storytelling, poetry, and dance --to learn together, laugh together, and share common values.
Please join our discussion about how the arts can heal us and help us overcome difficult times.

Speakers:

Maria Huppi
Website: http://www.mariahuppi.com/
Maria is a mouth painting artist. She became a quadriplegic in 2000 when a windstorm caused a tree to fall on the roof of her minivan while her husband Mike was driving. Her passion for painting started when her mother gave her a paint-by-numbers kit, and further expanded when she showed her cards from the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists.  Most of her inspiration comes from the beautiful garden and pond in her backyard where she has added goldfish and koi.  Daily visits from the squirrels and birds bring the backyard to life. Before the accident she enjoyed being out in the yard and gardening.  Now flowers grow on her canvas.  Watching the flowers, koi and goldfish has not only provided peaceful therapy but also color and movement which inspire her to re-create with paint.
