Overview:

Decades of mistreatment and exploitation that have taken place under various government policies aimed at colonization has perpetuated harm, promoted white supremacy and has attempted to eradicate Indigenous culture, values and people.

As adults working with young children, our system demands a new critical lens that centers Indigenous values in not just our classroom but in our social work and child welfare systems.

Framed within the discourse of human rights and social justice, this workshop will focus on helping social workers and educational systems place the interests of Indigenous communities at the center of their work by looking at ways we can fuse Indigenous culture, tradition, and ceremony into our organizations.

Join us for an 2-hour intensive in which we highlight and celebrate the resistance and resilience of Indigenous Peoples and find ways we can join in the movement to reform our practices to ensure they are anti-oppressive, affirming, and liberating for Indigenous, Black, Brown, and other voices of color.

Why I Should Attend:

Indigenous Peoples are becoming more visible and audible. They have fought back and thrived. They have used harmony and balance to liberate their own people while supporting the movements of other marginalized group.

Part of our responsibilities as colonizers is to accept our responsibilities for our encroachments into the lives of Indigenous Peoples and work to articulate, conceptualize and operationalize justice and truth in partnership with these groups.

Indigenous Peoples values, spirit, and activist lens, must be incorporated into the everyday actions and lexicon of educators, social workers, and adults working with young children.

Join us as we reimagine our work and move towards an understanding of Indigenous education and social work.
