Mark Music Show: The Wires & A Night Of Alternative String Music
The Mark
Kansas City, MO
Partager cet événement :

The Wires are an alternative exploration in string sound. Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, The Wires compose and perform original music
for violin and cello. Inspired by a myriad of genres and eclectic sounds, The Wires are not your typical strings group. The project encompasses a blend of wide-ranging styles, from tango to gypsy, jazz to rock and infused with the precision of classical form. Created, composed and performed by Laurel Morgan (violin) and Sascha Groschang (cello).

Laurel Morgan has been playing the violin for 25 years. She has shared the stage with Midori, Pepe Ramero, Sharon Isbin, Nadja Salerno-Sonneberg, and has been a featured musician for the United States Department of Labor. She has also performed with the Des Moines Symphony, Quixotic fusion ensemble, Musical Theatre Heritage at the Off-Center Theatre (Kansas City) and is a member of folk-rock band, In the Pines. As a member of In the Pines, Ms. Morgan has toured throughout Germany and Austria, has music featured in the film 72 Musicians and has won several Pitch music awards. As a graduate of the University of Missouri  Kansas City Conservatory of Music, Ms. Morgan has received prizes and scholarships from the Lincoln Symphony and UMKC Conservatory. Ms. Morgan is a former faculty member of the Cottey College department of music.

Sascha Groschang, cellist, is an active recitalist, having concertized across the United States and Asia. As an Artists International Special Presentation Winner, she gave her solo debut recital at Carnegie Halls Weill Recital Hall in February of 2009. She has appeared at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall many times as a chamber and orchestral musician, including as a featured soloist with country artist Clay Walker, and as associate principal of the National Youth Symphony. She has shared the stage with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Nadia Salerno-Sonnenburg, Johnathon Biss, Robert Levin, Sharon Isben, Vladimir Feltsman and Pepe Ramero. She has been a soloist with the Grammy-Award-winning Kansas City Chorale, The Bach-Aria Soloists, and has been a featured performer for Congressman Emmanuel Cleaver (MO), Governor Bob Holden (MO) and the United States Department of Labor.
