Fashion Industry Conference 2020 Pass
Postponed until April 24, 2021
The future of the fashion industry depends on encouraging, and exciting, high school students to pursue fashion as a career. To that end, the eighth annual FASHION INDUSTRY CONFERENCE, sponsored by the partnership between the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, Fashion Group International, and Washington State high schools and colleges, will be held April 24, 2021 in Ellensburg, Washington. The day will feature 10 hands-on student workshops, a university student fashion show, lunch, door prizes, swag bags, and keynote speaker.
The mission of the Fashion Industry Conference is to educate and mentor high school students interested in a career in fashion.
This event is created in cooperation with Central Washington University, FIDM, Washington State University, Seattle Central College, WA-FCCLA and the Greater Seattle Chapter of the American Sewing Guild.
WORKSHOPS (note you will be prompted after completing your transaction to choose your three workshops)
CREATIVE DRAPING
Come learn about the basic tools and techniques for draping any garment. We will take a design concept from muslin to paper pattern to fabric. See how clothing can be creative, tangible and fun.
DEVELOPING A CREATIVE BRIEF & DESIGN PORTFOLIO
Students will learn the key elements needed to develop their own brand, designs, and story boards which are essential to building a portfolio required for careers in the apparel design industry. Students will use Adobe Illustrator to execute a brand or product concept design presentation.
DIGITAL TEXTILE DESIGN
If you love color and design, come explore digital print creation. We will create unique textile designs then put the prints into repeat for printing onto fabric. You will mock your print up on a fashion illustration to take home.
FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY
Interested in Fashion photography? In this crash course, students will learn about some helpful tips on taking better photographs and will have the opportunity to watch a live fashion shoot take place, with model, along with a question and answer session afterwards.
FASHION TRENDS
Understanding where trend originate and their flow through the masses helps drive fashion. In this hands on workshop learn to identify trends, where trends come from and put together a forecast for future trends!
INTRO TO FASHION ILLUSTRATION
Here students will learn the basics of fashion illustration. Students will be shown various techniques to draw croquis (French for sketch), and clothing.
SEWING IS IN THE BAG!
Learn the basics of how to "create a bag" and make it super hip too! Using fun materials will allow you to make a drawstring bag.
TABLE DISPLAYS MADE EASY
To get started, Visual Merchandising basic principles will be covered through a short presentation that will give you a step-by-step guide into creating mesmerizing displays. This hands-on workshop will focus solely on building a table display and establishing shoppable scenes for every design aesthetic. Well supply all of the display essentials and have everything you need to let your creativity run wild!
TECHNIQUES THAT IMPROVE DESIGN CREATIVITY
This workshop will teach students creativity techniques to expand their design ideas. The only materials we will use are paper and pencils to unleash your creativity and think outside the box!
THE FABRIC OF AMERICA: US HISTORY THROUGH FASHION
From 1900s haute couture to fast-fashion of today, explore the influencers such as wars, economic and environmental disasters, artistic movements and technology.
APPAREL DEVELOPMENT CYCLE
Learn more about how apparel is made throughout the development cycle.
