Philly BalkanFest 2020
Join us for the 2nd annual Philadelphia festival of Balkan music and dance! The Folk Dance Council of the Delaware Valley in conjunction with Fly Bottle Records are proud to present
Philly BalkanFest 2020!
Philly boasts a rich tapestry of communities of Balkan and Roma heritage, and artists and artisans creating in the Balkan and Roma traditions. We are once again getting together to celebrate these beautiful traditions in a festival of the living arts, dance and culture of the Balkans, Philly style.
The all-ages festival will take place from 2 - 8 pm on May 3, 2020 at The Commodore Barry Club, 6815 Emlen Street in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. We have assembled a full program with events all afternoon, with non-stop world class music performances in the spectacular dance hall, plus food, dance workshop, craft vendors, and more spanning the Balkan folk traditions, and beyond!
Festival schedule:
1:30 pm Doors open 2:00 pm Philadelphia Women's Slavic Ensemble - raucous community choir singing traditional music from across the Balkans 2:30 pm Dance workshop with Steve Clarke 3:00 pm Stansilav Culcicovschi - virtuosic solo accordion 3:30 pm Vesna - choir featuring former members of Svitanya 4:00 pm Novi Hitovi Brass Band - fiery all-star Balkan brass band from NYC, Providence, Detriot and New Orleans! 4:50 pm West Philadelphia Orchestra - Philly's own Balkan-inspired party brass band 5:40 pm Mac $ Cheeze Balkan Power Trio - Dance-driving "Balkan Folkloric Musiquesxi" from Kingston, NY 6:30 pm ZRNA - Philly's new Balkan-inspired folktronic collective 7:15 pm Mountain Lions - ecstatic dance music with just alto saxophones and one drum, inspired by zurna (aka zurla) music from the southern Balkans, featuring members of Slavic Soul Party! and Novi Hitovi Brass Band
Balkan food and drink available for purchase, provided by EuroMarket. Vegetarian and vegan food options will be available.
PLUS Balkan-themed kids' crafts (till 5pm)!
TICKET PRICING: $25 General admission, online pre-sale (+ small ticket fee) $30 General admission, at the door $15 student or active military, with ID shown at the door $10 kids 12 years and under Free for kids 3 and under
