Want to experience where your food comes from? Do you have a dream of running your own farm one day? Join this bus tour that will take you to three different farm businesses operated by soil sisters for a personal tour of their diversified farms, sharing their love for agriculture and the steps they took to launch and grow their business. The farmers will cover a variety of topics from small scale livestock, market gardening, CSAs (community supported agriculture), retrofitting a farmstead sustainably and running a farm on solar energy.
Soil sisters will serve as your guides throughout the tour and on the bus, sharing stories and answering questions about our shared mission to steward our landscape and cultivate community.
Farm fresh snacks and samples provided.
Meet these three Browntown and Monroe area Soil Sisters and take a "behind the scenes" tour of their farms:
Christensen Farm (Browntown)
A family farm with three generations playing in the dirt and raising healthy and wholesome vegetables, fruits, and chickens for eggs. We are also working to diversify our livestock on the farm with grazing Scottish Highland cattle. After 12 years traveling the world, Katy and her husband Mark returned to the farm next to the one she grew up on. "I have a something in me, probably genetic, that just makes me want to grow plants and raise them so my family and friends can eat fresh and healthy produce. This farm is a certified-organic Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) operation.
Food Web Farms (Monroe)
Michelle Harrigan, along with her husband Dan and her two children, started Food Web Farms in 2014. A small family farm committed to finding how we can best care for the land and provide fresh, homegrown, and well cared for meat and produce for our friends and neighbors. Michelle also holds farm themed programs for young children and their families to help inspire the next generation.
Inn Serendipity (Browntown)
Completely powered by the sun, the award-winning Inn Serendipity Farm and B&B is one of the "top 10 Eco-destinations in North America." Owners are co-authors of Farmstead Chef, ECOpreneuring and Rural Renaissance & Homemade for Sale. Lisa Kivirist is author of Soil Sisters: A Toolkit for Women Farmers. Their fresh produce, books and value-added products (pickles, garlic, sauerkraut) produced under Wisconsins cottage food law -- are available for sale.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Children under age 2 can join the bus tour for free assuming that they can sit on the lap of a parent on the bus.
All children, ages 2 to 18, must be accompanied by a paying adult.
While there are limited spaces on the bus tour, a minimum of paid registrants must be met in order for the bus tour to be offered. Notwithstanding the CANCELLATION POLICY: NO REFUNDS explained below, if the bus tour must be cancelled due to lack of paid registrants 2 weeks prior to the schedule event, any paid registrants will be notified and refunded their payment in full.
PLEASE DO NOT VISIT FARMS PRIVATELY
Please respect the working farms and do not privately visit the farms outside workshop, culinary events or scheduled bus tours. Thanks for your understanding.

CANCELLATION POLICY: NO REFUNDS. SOIL SISTERS has a no refund policy, other than if minimum tour bus participants cannot be reached. You can, however, transfer your ticket to another person, provided that person is in possession of the ticket at the time of the workshop or tour.
