Marimba Masterworks
With a marimba provided by Arcata's own MarimbaOne, Ms Mizukami will play a program of classic and modern pieces for Opening Night of TBAM Festival! It will be a varied program with works by Shwantner, Garren, De Mey, Hosokawa, Abe, Sammut, Stout and Ewazen.
Nonoka was born in Fukui Japan, began studying piano at the age of two and a half, and started to play marimba by age ten. She won Second Place with an Excellence award at the 2007 KOBE International Music Competition, and The Kobe City Board of Education Award, and she has since performed widely in Japan and the U.S., including concerto performances with both the Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra and Kyoto Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra in 2014 in Japan, and performances at Kennedy Center in Washington DC. She has attended many music festivals, including the Takefu International Music Festival in 2005 and 2010 (of which Hosokawa Toshio is the music director) in Takefu, Japan, Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, CO, Trinidad Bay Art Music Festival in Trinidad, CA, and Pikes Falls Chamber Music Festival, Jamaica, VT. Nonoka lives in Baltimore, MD, and performs with Washington Chamber Orchestra, NakedEye Ensemble, and Pique Collective. Ms. Mizukami holds a BM, GPD, and MM from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, thanks to the Leonard Sandler Scholarship. She is currently pursuing a DMA, as well as teaching percussion at the Peabody Preparatory School.
