False Graining with Oil Paint - Paint a Candle Box and Picture Frame

Learn to false grain with oil paint as you decorate a candle box and frame. A dark glaze is applied over yellow paint. Then, while the glaze is wet, a spontaneous texture is created using the traditional tools of a comb, corncob, putty, fingers, sponge, or brush.

Jim King has a B.A. in art from Goshen College, Goshen, IN. He began studying vinegar painting in the 1980's when he was inspired by grain painting antiques he was collecting. He purchased blanket chests in disrepair at auctions and flea markets and then restored them and applied vinegar painted surfaces. He had difficulty finding smaller chests and started having Old Order cabinetmakers copy his antiques when he then grain painted using a variety of traditional techniques.

Cancellation Policy: All materials must be pre-purchased by the instructor; therefore, cancellations can only be refunded prior to sales-end date. Refunds can be requested through Brown Paper Tickets up to 12 hours after purchase. After that grace period and before the sales-end date, refunds will be issued via a paper check from the Landis Valley Associates, less a $20 non-refundable processing fee. In that case, students can use funds already spent towards the cost of another class or receive a full refund.
