Chamber Music for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano
*** RECITAL POSTPONED TO JANUARY 27, 5:30 PM ***

Join us on Sunday, January 27th in historic downtown Lancaster for an evening of chamber music. Renowned Lancaster musicians Maria Corley, piano, and Sara Male, cello team up with Lancaster native and NYC based Clarinetist Eric Umble to present a program of French, German, and American chamber music. The program explores a range of music from the classical period to the 20th century.

Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster is located at 328 West Orange Street, Lancaster. The recital will begin at 5:30 pm on Sunday, January 27th and will last around 75 minutes. Tickets are available online or at the door for a minimum donation of $10.

The program features the music of Debussy, Schumann, Bruch, Beethoven, and Muczynski.

Performer biographies:

MARIA THOMPSON CORLEY (MM, DMA, The Juilliard School) has appeared as a solo and collaborative pianist on radio, television, and concert stages in Canada, the United States, Central America, the Caribbean, Bermuda and Europe, including performances in Budapest at the Liszt Academy, and in Carnegie Recital Hall, Aaron Davis Hall and Alice Tully Hall, all in New York City.  She has collaborated with such artists as Metropolitan Opera soprano Priscilla Baskerville, internationally renowned clarinetist James Campbell, Peter Kenote, a violist in the New York Philharmonic, and Dara Morales, principal second violinist in the Philadelphia Orchestra.  Her engagemenss as a soloist with orchestra include the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Gunther Schuller, the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, and the Allegro Chamber Orchestra.  She has also performed with the Philadelphia-based Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra. Maria Thompson Corley and cellist Sara Male formed Duo Chiaroscuro in 2011; the group has recently begun a series of concerts for people with special needs, or other challenges to strictly observing concert protocols. Dr. Corley has recorded CD's for Naxos, Albany, and independent labels. Excerpts from her discs have been featured on radio, nationally and internationally. Her recording of Margaret Bondss Troubled Water was included in the HBO special, Kabreeyahs Salad Days.

Maria Corley is also a composer and arranger (Walton), voice actor (Unisys, University of Pennsylvania, SunTrust) and writer (Huffington Post, Broad Street Review). An award-winning poet, her first novel, Choices, was published by Kensington, and her current release, Letting Go, is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Createspace, and Smashwords.

Canadian cellist SARA MALE received an Associate of Arts in Music degree from the Victoria Conservatory of Music in Canada, where she was presented the Principal Emeritus Prize. Ms. Male holds a Bachelor of Music with high honors from Rutgers University, and a Master of Music from the Mannes College of Music in New York City. Her major teachers include Jim Hunter, Bernard Greenhouse, Zara Nelsova and Timothy Eddy. Sara has also participated in programs that allowed her to study with Anner Bylsma, Janos Starker and Channing Robbins.

Ms. Male is well sought after as a chamber-music recitalist, having performed in major venues in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. Ms. Male is the founding cellist of the Newstead Trio and continues to tour regularly with this well-known ensemble. Ms. Male recently founded Trio Caprice and also Duo Chiaroscuro. Duo Chiaroscuro has for over five years been dedicated to creating musical experiences that both touch and thrill their audiences. Recently, Duo Chiaroscuro decided to make their art available to people who might not typically feel welcome to enjoy live performances, like those on the autism spectrum or with other distinct needs. They created a series entitled Silence Optional which includes visual and musical components.

Sara also collaborates in chamber-music programs with her husband & violist Peter Kenote, a member of the New York Philharmonic. She performs with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Reading Symphony, and the Kennett Symphony. This fall, Sara was a featured guest artist with the Reading Symphony performing Joel Pucketts Short Stories for string quartet and orchestra. She will be soloing this spring with Allegro, the Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster.

Sara is a senior adjunct assistant professor of cello at Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, PA. and also an adjunct professor of cello at Elizabethtown College.

ERIC UMBLE is a versatile, award-winning clarinetist hailed as "lovely", (New York Arts) and known for his "... nuanced and coloristic playing." (The Clarinet). Eric enjoys a diverse international career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and music educator. An advocate for and avid performer of contemporary music, he is a founding member of SoundMind, sTem, DuoHelix, Wavefield, and Pink Noise ensembles; all champion music by living composers.

Eric served as clarinetist in residence at Chamber Music Silicon Valley, the Annapolis Chamber Music Festival, and New Music on the Point. He has performed with renowned ensembles including the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), the Orchestras of the Lucerne Festival Academy and Alumni, the WindScape Quintet, American Modern Ensemble, LoftOpera, ECCE, Tenth Intervention, Cantata Profana, Ensemble Echappee, Contemporaneous, and Ensemble Mise-en. Eric has performed in the world's major venues including Carnegie's Stern Auditorium, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, Roulette, and National Sawdust in New York; as well as Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie, the Berlin Philharmonie, and the Oil Tank Culture Park in Seoul, South Korea. Eric has participated in residencies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong,  as well as Princeton, Cornell, Millersville, Miami, and Sul Ross State, Universities.

Dedicated to using music as a force for positive change, Eric produced benefit concerts that raised thousands of dollars for public health, shelters, and disaster relief. He has received awards and honors including the grand prize of the Naftzger Young Artist Competition, Lancaster Red Rose Award for Community Service, Gordon Parks Memorial Competition, Skokie Valley Young Artist Competition, and the Fuchs Chamber Music Competition. As an educator, Eric is a teaching artist with the Bridge Arts Ensemble, and he is a Music Theory teacher at the Washington Heights Community Conservatory in Manhattan. He enjoys relationships with the Escuela Nacional de Música in Mexico City and Casa de Las Américas in Havana, Cuba where he has presented numerous lectures, masterclasses, and recitals.
