Oracle Set Foundation and Book Club 2019 Book/Author Luncheon
Our guest author, Ray Hinton, is an African-American man from Alabama who was wrongly convicted of the 1985 murders of two fast food restaurant managers in Birmingham, sentenced to death, and held on the state's death row for 28 years. In 2015 the Supreme Court of the United States unanimously overturned his conviction on appeal, and the state dropped all charges against him. Attorney Bryan Stevenson and the Equal Justice Initiative were instrumental in helping Mr. Hinton gain his freedom.
In his book, The Sun Does Shine, How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row, Mr. Hinton tells his story of surviving death row with determination and never-ending hope.
Our annual luncheon benefits the Claudette Franklin Ford Scholarship. The Oracle Set Foundation awards college scholarships to graduates of District of Columbia public high schools and public charter high schools.
Come early to enjoy the smooth jazzy sounds of vocalist Linda Harris and to submit your bids for the fabulous items featured in the annual silent auction!
