Did you know that in 2013, we had RECORD HIGH sea turtle nesting in Boca Raton? Over the years, the chances of our Turtle Walk participants seeing a nesting loggerhead turtle has been between 50-75% Our Turtle Walk Programs include an ecology walk on the beach, so even if we aren't able to see a nesting loggerhead sea turtle, we do enjoy an evening walk on the beach.
This popular program begins with an educational program in Gumbo Limbo's classroom. We then go to the beach to enjoy a relaxing ecology walk and if we are lucky, encounter a nesting loggerhead sea turtle.
Turtle Walks are a hands-off program. Per our Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Marine Turtle Permit, only the individuals specifically listed on the permit are allowed to touch the sea turtles.
NOTE: Nesting sea turtle sightings are NOT guaranteed and compensation is not available if a turtle is not seen.
We are limited to the number of programs we can hold, and to the number of people who can attend each program by the guidelines stipulated in our Marine Turtle Permit, issued by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, so once a program is filled, we CANNOT accommodate additional guests.
Reservation limits and sale dates are firm. Approx. 2/3 of the reservations will be made available during the Members-Only Reservations, and the remaining will be held for the General Reservations.
Please note, you are NOT guaranteed to see a nesting sea turtle on Turtle Walks. Over the last few years, we have witnessed a nesting turtle on about 60% of our walks.
Turtle Walk are for ages 8 and up. Minors 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
