On Friday, April 13th, 2018, we will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality.
Join us for a fundraising banquet prepared by our friends at Wesley Memorial as we celebrate fifteen years of dedication to the community and honor the struggles, victories, and partnerships that have defined our legacy since 2002.
Dinner will be followed by an awards ceremony honoring several of the individuals and organizations who have been instrumental in shaping our history and influencing lives in their community.
Those being honored include:
Dieyah Rasheed Zakia Shabazz Janet Queen Nzinga Taylor Lynetta Thompson Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church
Also, we will honor, in memoriam, a much-loved Elder of the Defenders, Martha Johnson, who passed on January 9th, 2018, and Bridg Allen, long time supporter of the Shockoe Bottom Memorial Park effort, passed January 31st, 2018.
As we celebrate the progress that has been made, we also look to the future and the role of the Defenders in years to come. The evening will conclude a special unveiling.
All proceeds will assist us in our ongoing work, so please RSVP by April 9th, 2018.
Ask us about you or your organization becoming an event Sponsor or Patron. Sponsor and Patron level contributors will receive additional ticketing options, program mentions and a framed copy of the first issue of the Defender newspaper, published in 2005.
