 Maine-born, Austin-based singer-songwriter Slaid Cleaves spins stories with a novelist's eye and a poet's heart. Twenty years into his career, the celebrated songwriter's newest album, Still Fighting the War, delivers vivid snapshots as wildly cinematic as they are carefully chiseled with themes ranging from gospel, to Texas pride, to tongue in cheek numbers.  His bittersweet melodies deliver equal measures of hope and resignation, effortlessly shading dark with light and wringing the most out of a melody.
