If the Eagles, Steve Earle, and James Taylor had a lovechild, they would have named him Darryl Tonemah. A full-blooded Native American (Kiowa/Comanche/Tuscarora), Dr. Tonemah grew up on and off reservations throughout the country. He began writing songs in college and has since played thousands of shows, made numerous radio and TV appearances, and released six albums. He is a multiple NAMMY winner and one of Indian Country's most popular contemporary musicians, with a powwow beat behind his rocking original compositions and a truly international fan base.
Joe Bruchac is America's foremost American Indian storyteller and will be featured again this October at the International Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee. His son Jesse's original compositions with flute, drum and guitar in the traditional mode have been used in the soundtracks of a dozen documentary films. Jesse opened for The Grateful Dead in Highgate Vermont on their last tour and performed at Woodstock II. [CORRECTION: Our weekly newsletter said that the Bruchacs are Mohawk. They are not. Along with esteemed North Country fiddler John Kirk, Tonemah and the Bruchacs will Native songs new and old, along with stories and instrumental pieces.
