Caribbean Cinema Nights at BGX Studio
Caribbean Cinema Nights, is CaFA's longest running screening series, bringing Caribbean films to various venues in Brooklyn. With this edition of the Cinema Nights, in partnership with PrintbyPrint Group and Black Gotham Experience, we will be bringing Caribbean films to the South Street Seaport District in Manhattan, mixing it with the Black Gotham Experience, celebrating the impact of the African Diaspora on New York City since 1625.

Each screening comes with the opportunity to go on one of Black Gotham Experience's interactive walking tours.

The Knot Film

After secretly casting love spells on each other, a couple find out that digging deep into the dirt and the heart can reveal truths and open up new possibilities for their relationship free of deceit and magic. "THE KNOT," is based on a true story, originally retold by a priest, for the purpose of a magazine article, written by Jacintha Annius-Lee. The article explored the use of Obeah in Saint Lucia, including love ties, which was further explored in the film.

The Croft

Aspiring screen writer Derrick Myers retreats to a vacation house in the mountains for seclusion so he can get the time and space needed to complete his break through project. He believes Jamaica needs a change in it's ways of screenwriting, so he decides to create something new and different, Derrick decides to create a Jamaican horror story with the hopes of getting a movie deal.

On his way to his mountain getaway Derrick has an encounter with an apparition on the side of the road which leads to his next few days in the mountains filled with a series of bizarre and terrifying events, his horror story is about to become a true story.

Passage tells the story of a young woman and her brother fighting for survival while being smuggled into the US on a fishing vessel.

"The Seawall" A Film by Mason Richards
The Seawall, a narrative short film shot entirely on location in Georgetown, Guyana, tells the story of Marjorie, a Guyanese woman, who is preparing for her 10-year old grandsons move to America to be with his mother. Struggling with loneliness, and abandonment, audiences watch as Marjorie sacrifices her happiness for her grandsons future.

Scars Of Our Mothers' Dreams

Scars of Our Mothers Dreams is a film that offers a unique, intimate glimpse into the complexities of parental migration through the lenses of children left behind. Years after her own personal struggle to overcome the feeling of childhood abandonment, filmmaker Meschida Philip returned to Grenada in search of others with similar childhood experiences, to find out how their lives were impacted after their parents migrated.

About Black Gotham Experience:
Established in 2010 by artist/historian Kamau Ware, Black Gotham Experience (BGX) is an immersive visual storytelling project that celebrates the impact of the African Diaspora on New York City since 1625. BGX reimagines the histories of the places directly impacted by the African Diaspora as human stories through interactive walking tours, a developing series of photography-based graphic novels, and events. The heart of this experience are three stories that revisit Manhattan in 1623 and move forward through three centuries: Other Side of Wall Street, Caesars Rebellion, and Citizen Hope.
