As relevant today as the first day it opened on Broadway, The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd is a comical satire on the way people of different "classes" treat each other. Sir, the pompous, autocratic "have" engages Cocky, the meek "have-not", in a symbolic Game of Life, which Sir seems to always win by manipulating the game and changing the rules whenever it suits him to do so.

With a soaring musical score by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse, many of the songs are easily identified even by those who have never heard of the show. Songs such as Who Can I Turn To (made popular by Newley himself) and Feelin' Good (which scaled the pop charts in a version by Nina Simone) will bring the delight of recognition, but will also stir you as the songs highlight the struggles between the characters.

Playing four weeks in May at the EXIT Theatre, Landmark Musical Theatre is proud to bring this show back to San Francisco after a long absence.  Local musical theater standout performers Scott Ayres, Samantha Cori, Juanita Harris, Julian O'Byrne and Heather Steffen lead the cast.  The show is directed by Landmark's artistic director, Jonathan Rosen (The Boy From Oz, Tomfoolery, HAiR), with music direction by Brian Allan Hobbs (Rocky Horror Show, West Side Story, Les Miserables).
