This presentation will attempt to shed some light on the character and life of the last French king to rule over New France. At its greatest extent, New France included territories in French Canada and Louisiana. The territories of New France were ceded to Great Britain and Spain through the Treaty of Paris in 1763. Louis XV should be of special historical interest to Canadians because he was the last king of France to rule over Canadian territory. Some of his policies had a lasting effect on the development of French-Canadian society.
