Johnny Moses presents Medicine Songs of the Pacific NW
Johnny Moses noted native NW Storyteller introduces 2 new CD's that preserve NW Salish Cultural for future generations.  "Samish Songs of the San Juan Islands" and "Snohomish Songs of Puget Sound"

Johnny is a Tulalip Native American with a multi-tribal ancestry including  the Nuu-chah-nulth, Saanich, Snohomish, Duwamish, and Chehamus peoples. Greg Fields, a professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville produced the CD's.  Moses and Fields have collaborated for a number of years on several projects concerning Pacific Northwest native culture and song, including a forthcoming book:  Sacred Breath: Culture and Medicine Teachings of the Pacific Northwest.  The two new CDs are part of a series recorded last year at Jack Straw Productions in Seattle, with a grant from the Jack Straw Foundation.

Speaking there last month, Moses said:
"When I listen to the songs I have good feeling that the songs are going to be used in a good way, and most of all that the young people are going to be encouraged and know that they had a rich culture. We are losing so many of our young people, on our reservations and in cities...And I really believe that the songs will help them The main reason I agreed to do this project is that I was thinking of the younger people, the next generation, something I could do to encourage our people today  I know my grandparents are happy.  Before they died I got to hear them tell me, 'We're so glad that you love the songs.  Keep on singing; don't give up.'"

Free parking in the area.  Doors open at 5:30pm.  Come early to enjoy the Art Gallery Show: "Duwamish Journey with Johnny Moses."
