German Expressionism and the Roots of Film Noir
Film noir's roots can be found in German Expressionist cinema. Diane Armitage will help connect the dots in a talk that takes us back to the source with clips from expressionist films such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and others. Many of the émigré/exile noir directors cut their teeth on Weimar films and carried an aesthetic reflected in the noir movies made here.
