THE KILLERS
THE KILLERS, which is based on an Ernest Hemingway short story, stars Burt Lancaster in his first movie role. Hemingway reportedly liked the movie which went on to be nominated for four Academy Awards. It was named one of the Top Ten films for 1946 by the National Board of Review and was further honored in 2008 when the Library of Congress selected it for inclusion in the National Film Registry. THE KILLERS is considered to be one of the definitive film noirs with one of the greatest opening sequences in movie history.
The story revolves around two mysterious men (William Conrad and Charles McGraw) who muscle their way into a small town bent on killing the "Swede" (Burt Lancaster). The Swede appears resigned to his fate as his story unfolds.
