Joe Crookston at Music in the Gallery Concerts
Rising folk and roots music star Joe Crookston brings his guitar mastery, story songs, humor, unstoppable energy and infectious rhythm to the Music in the Gallery concert series on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 7:30 PM in the beautiful James Arnold Mansion, owned by the Wamsutta Club, 427 County Street (at the corner of Union Street), New Bedford, MA. Music in the Gallery is presented by the Music Directors of the New Bedford Folk Festival. Music in the Gallery concerts are open to the general public. All are welcome to this lovely, unique music experience.
Joe Crookston will present a great evening of music, story, art and song. Joe is bringing his fiddle, his slide guitar, hilarious stories, universal songs and infectious rhythms for a concert that will leave you feeling more awake and alive with a renewed sense of what's possible. If you love a moving song and musical excitement, Joe Crookston delivers it all, the melodies, the lyrics, the energy, and a deep passion for exceptionally well-written music. With unwavering courage and a commitment to give his audience a great time, he is literate, poignant and funny. Joe Crookston's first album, Fall Down as the Rain, was selected by Performing Songwriter Magazine as one of 2004's top 12 self-produced independent recordings, and was featured on National Public Radio's All Songs Considered, The Midnight Special and Folkscene. Crookston was a finalist in the Mountain Stage NewSong contest. In 2007, Crookston received a Rockefeller Foundation grant for a project called "Songs of the Finger Lakes". Emulating Woody Guthrie, he spent a year traveling in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, collecting stories to turn into songs. In February 2009, his second CD, Able Baker Charlie & Dog featuring four of these collected songs, was given the "Album of the Year" award by the International Folk Alliance. Crookston has performed at prestigious venues including the Kennedy Center and has garnered accolades at the New Bedford Folk Festival, the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and the Philadelphia Folk Festival where Canadian songwriter David Francey said, At every festival I hope to find the gift of one artist whose songwriting and performance stand out.
