2017 Jefferson County Stream Stewards Class

WSU Jefferson County Extensions is offering a new 2017 Stream Stewards Course this fall. Based in Port Hadlock at the new WSU Jefferson Extension office, well explore all around East Jefferson County. This lively 5-week course combines classroom lectures by regional experts with local field trips and fun. Classes are held each Thursday from Oct 5 to Nov. 2, 2017. The course is designed for anyone interested in freshwater streams, salmon, forests and watershed resources.

Participants in this course receive comprehensive, science-based training and become stewards, citizen scientists, and educators in the local community. Instructors come from a wide range of agencies and organizations, including WDFW, Northwest Watershed Institute, Jefferson County Public Health, Jamestown SKlallam Tribe, Jefferson PUD, and WSU Extension.

Following the class, Jefferson WSU Stream Stewards commit to volunteering 40 hours for local water-related programs with WSU Extension, Jefferson Land Trust, North Olympic Salmon Coalition, Jefferson Conservation District and others. Activities include stream monitoring, restoring native habitats and environmental education.
