YAT WORK: CHARACTER TRANSFORMATION and THE PSYCHOLOGY OF MOVEMENT If creation begins in a moment of release and chaos, the question of your capacity to live inside that chaos in a full, truthful and penetrable way becomes immediate. Long known in Europe, but new to the U.S., the Yat Method offers a methodological and dynamic approach to the creation of Character
In this 15-hour introductory weekend workshop for actors, dancers, writers and directors, you will immerse first into a series of physical, non-intellectual exercises in which you let go of your mind; unlock deeply held, hidden resistances to creative discovery; and make contact with new levels of creative freedom. You will begin to learn a unique methodological approach that allows you to make spontaneous contact with the emotions, the intuitions, the thought process, and the senses, allowing for rapid growth and shifts. This physical work is then incorporated into text, character, voice, movement and the cultivation of presence.
By the end of this workshop, participants will have been introduced to the major components of Yat's work:
8 Working Actions 4 Mental Factors 4 Motion Factors 6 Inner Attitudes 4 Externatlized Drives
The work meets each person exactly where they are, right now, and allows for rapid growth and shifts. Simple and profoundly transformational, what you learn can be utilized in your ongoing creative projects for years to come.

BIOGRAPHY: Tom Bentley-Fisher has directed and performed in Europe, Canada, and the United States and taught at universities, theatre schools and on-going studio classes for over 30 years. He began as an actor, training in New York and London with Sanford Meisner and Yat Malmgren, and then performed in London's West End, premiering with Vanessa Redgrave, before moving on to directing and teaching. Tom has coached young actors preparing for some of the best US and British theater schools, and seasoned performers who now work with major companies around the world. He has served as Artistic Director of five professional theatres and is currently at the helm of Tant per Tant Theatre and Film, an international theater company based in Canada and Barcelona, Spain and is Co-Artistic Director of Waterfront Production House and Conservatory in Berkeley, CA. Over the span of his career, Tom has developed a highly original approach to acting based on the work of his own mentor, Yat Malmgren, that brings a unique and detailed approach to unlocking hidden resistances, allowing the performer/writer/director to become astonishingly free. Tom's mentor Yat Malmgren's students included Anthony Hopkins, Emilia Clarke, Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Sean Connery, Patricia Neal, and Colin Firth among many others.
