Black Girl Magic Monologues @ The DC Black Theatre & Arts Festival
Some of DC and Baltimore's most phenomenal women come together to tell their truths and share some #BlackGirlMagic.

Alex Alexander:
An alumna of the Brave New Voices DC slam team, Alex blends literary and visual arts. Her work brings to the forefront matters of sexuality, racial sensitivity, emotional loss and gain, and visual stories of ones defiance against the odds. Alexander received her Bachelors in Fine Art Photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in 2010.

Charity Joyce Blackwell:
Born in Arizona and raised in South Carolina, Charity Blackwell is a spoken word artist who is quickly making a name for herself in the DMV.

Olu Butterfly:
As a youth arts instructor, social entrepreneur, and distinctive performance poet she has received a Rubys Artist Project Grant, a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award, been voted Favorite All Around Female Poet at the People's Poetry Awards and Best Grass-Roots Poet by The CityPaper.

Rebecca Dupas:
A Louisiana native, educator, photographer, PhD student, and award-winning poet whose writing, performance, and contribution to the poetry community has been recognized in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and beyond. Rebecca has published four CDs and a book of original poetry entitled "The Exchange". Rebecca has appeared on Centric, FOX5, C-Span, and in The Washington Poet alongside President Clinton.

Shelly Says So:
A true renaissance woman, Shelly simultaneously excels in art, education, and business. Her poetry inspires audiences across the country with healthy helpings of feminine sass, curvy confidence, and thought-provoking audacity. She was Miss Maryland Plus USA (2014) and Poet of the Year (Baltimore Crown Awards, 2013). She has been featured by The Huffington Post, ABC7, The City Paper, and Black Enterprise.
