The Funny 2017

The Funny 2017 once again engaged local female, trans, genderqueer, agender, queer, and feminist performers to create new works that challenge audiences to rethink their own perspectives on gender, sexuality, privilege, and community. Comprised of new, high-quality, humorous works, The Funny brings together artists and audiences in a celebratory, community-building event, while exposing the larger community to new artists and perspectives.

The festival is curated and directed by Raw Sugars Company Members Akiko Ostlund and Andi Cheney, with support from Raw Sugar Artistic Director Jenny Moeller. Andi Cheney will again be emceeing as Aunt Flo.

Featuring artists: Awazi Jaafaru, Paige Collette*, Julia Gay, Joelle Fernandez, Shannon Mae Leach*, Queen Drea, brianne a. hill, Alyssa Perau, Gabriela Santiago*, and Alys Ayumi Ogura. (*Have performed in previous productions.)

Raw Sugar artists represent a diversity of artistic disciplines, ages, sexual identities, gender identities, races/ethnicities, and performance experience level. They include musicians, writers, stand-up comics, puppeteers, and movement artists. Seven new performers and three performers from previous productions are eager to make The Funny 2017 the best one yet.

Tickets are $12 for students, and $18 for adults. Presale tickets are $15! No one will be turned away for lack of funds!
