Grow Your Own Medicine: Design and Decide

Design and Decide: get inspired with herb garden designs, learn the medicinal values of plants and leave dreaming with the tools to start!

Explore designs: traditional European convent gardens, native American wheels, early American and traditional Indian gardens and the exploration of new possibilities. We follow up with what plants you could choose to create these gardens. You will learn what plants are used for certain health challenges. We not only have a look at regular garden plants and culinary herbs, we add local, native plants and exciting tropical ideas.

Each herb has a different medicinal and spiritual value that you will come to understand. Henriette will assist all participants with a customized advice fitting you and your family needs. In the second part of the class we go outside in Habanera Farm's herb garden to get practical tips for the growing needs and hands on experience. The class is a mixture of necessary planning skills, practical experience and learning about medicinal values. Lunch included. Location:
Habanera Farm and the very nearby historic Whitehaven School.

June 17th:Tending, Harvesting and Drying: this class will cover the tending during the growing period, harvesting and creating teas; making flower essences and making tinctures and healing oils. We will also learn more on the medicinal value of the plants.

September 16: Harvesting and Creating Products: harvesting plants, leaves and roots or rhizomes, using them for oils, vinegars, tinctures, cordials and other herbal drinks, making wax and herbal baths. You will definitely come out with some nice Holiday presents or / and medicines to keep you healthy during the winter. We will also focus on what to do during the winter with your herb garden and already start planning for next season.

Teacher: Henriette den Ouden, clinical herbalist and herb grower at Habanera Farm. With 10 year experience in herb growing and a Masters degree in Herbal Medicine there is no better teacher!
